What is “Page Rank” ?
PageRank is an algorithm (founded by Larry Page) to measure relative information value on websites.
The algorithm has got a lot of fame because it is used by worlds biggest search engine Google to weigh different websites information value against each other. The best way to find out a domains PageRank is to use Googles own Google Toolbar. There are also several services online that you can use to find out PageRank on a domain.
PageRank was developed by Stanford-university that got patent on it 1998. Google bought all rights to this patent back in 2005 for 335 million USD. The commercial value for the algorithm is considered to be much higher.
